Islam and Muslims
The Arabic word "Islam" means peace, submission and obedience. The religion of Islam is the complete acceptance of the teachings and guidance of God (Allah) as revealed to His Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
A Muslim is one who believes in God (Allah) and strives for total reorganization of his life according to His revealed guidance and the sayings of the Prophet (pbuh). He also works for building human society on the same basis. "Muhammadanism" is a misnomer for Islam and offends its very spirit.
The word "Allah" is the proper name of God (Allah)' in Arabic. It is a unique term because it has no plural or feminine gender.

The Concept of God in Islam |
It is a known fact that every language has one or more terms that are used in reference to God (Allah) and sometimes to lesser deities. This is not the case with God (Allah). God (Allah) is the personal name of the One true God (Allah). Nothing else can be called God (Allah). The term has no plural or gender. This shows its uniqueness when compared with the word god which can be made into plural, gods or feminine, goddess. It is interesting to notice that God (Allah) is the personal name of God (Allah) in Aramaic, the language of Jesus and a sister language of Arabic.

Since God (Allah) is the absolute and the sole master of men and the universe, and since He has given each man human dignity and honor, and breathed into him of His own spirit, it follows that men are essentially the same. In fact, the only differences between them are such artificial ones as nationality, color, or race. Thus, all human beings are equal and form one universal community that is united in its submission and obedience to God (Allah). The center of this universal brotherhood is the Islamic confession of the oneness of God (Allah) that, by extension, includes the oneness and brotherhood of humanity.

A major goal of Islam is to provide mankind with a practical and realistic system of life based on good by which he can conduct his life. It calls upon mankind not only to practice virtue but to establish it and to eradicate all that is harmful. It seeks the supremacy of one's conscience in all matters, so that what is harmful cannot gain the upper hand in either an individual or a society. Those who respond to this call are known as Muslims, which literally means those who have submitted to God (Allah). The sole object of the resulting community of Muslims (the ummah ) is the undertaking of an organized effort to establish what is good and to fight and eradicate what is evil and harmful.
