Halfmoon Bay Motorcycle Mania

I guess most of you remember how we used to have picnic's sponsored by Student Rec. etc. at the old Half Moon Bay.

Anyhow, this was also the first summer that ARAMCO had allowed motorcycles in camp, actually only Honda 50's with the big front shield.

Anyhow, if you remember Half Moon Bay you remember the pier that went out into the water and at the end it formed a "T" with the main walkway to the "T" being anchored while the front or top bar of the whole "T" floated up and down with the waves and was hooked on two poles so it could go up and down with the tide also.

Well, there was this little ramp that you walked up or down to get on the "T" top and a this time the water was pretty choppy and was making the floating top go up and down. Debbie Dirr was sitting there if I recall right..She's a special person. Anyway, Tom Masso, I believe, came roaring down the walkway on his Honda and was planning on scaring the people off the end into the water. Well, he hit the little ramp just as the floating T rose up and that propelled him into the air.

Amazingly enough, I can still hear him changing gears as he went over us and into the bay, about ten feet from the edge. The language used at the time was record setting and I hurt so hard laughing that I was in tears. Anyhow, we finally dove down, got it out and spent a good part of the day drying everything off...and you know, that tuff little machine came to life and was ridden back to Dhahran.  Harley's, hurmph !

I do apologize to Tom Masso if it wasn't him, it might have been Peter Pestoni, but the humor of the day has made my senile mind go blank.
